Presenters will be notified by Wednesday, September 1, 2021
The CARAS-CLAW Conference: Leather-Kink Research and Clinical Knowledge (C2C) invites proposals for presentations, workshops, and poster sessions addressing sexuality communities served by CARAS, with particular emphasis on leather-kink communities. Both clinical and research topics are welcome. We solicit proposals from diverse disciplines including psychology, psychiatry, medicine, nursing, sociology, sexology, anthropology, social work, history, philosophy, and education. Other disciplines are welcome; please contact the conference organizers to inquire.
Illustrative topics include (but are not limited to): groups and practices in alternative sexualties (e.g., pup play, findom); long-term relationships in leather-kink communities; consent; ethics in sexuality; distinguishing BDSM practice from abuse; issues of transference/counter-transference; impact of BDSM practices on clients with trauma history; aging and kink; edge play dynamics; polyamorous relationships in leather-kink; history of leather-kink communities; disability and kink; theoretical approaches in the study of sexualities; religion and spirituality; early research findings; sex work; intersections of gender, race, class, and other social/cultural attributes with sexuality.
Conference Format
The three-day long conference involves a unique collaboration between a major leather community event and CARAS. The C2C will be fully integrated in the CLAW21 event (please visit https://clawinfo.org for more information). C2C attendees will be expected to register for the CLAW event, and also to be current CARAS subscribers.
There are five categories of proposals for the C2C. These are:
Lecture: a presentation on one topic or study or case presentation
Panel Presentation (Symposium): Several speakers and presenters discussing one topic
Roundtable Discussion: Small group discussions (appropriate for brainstorming, clinical case reflections)
CE Workshop: A 120 minute program that includes didactic instruction and interactive small-group work on a set of defined cases, issues, or questions.
Poster Presentation: a visual presentation that allows for one-to-one or small group discussion
C2C events will be of 60 or 90 minute duration, and the CE workshops may be 120 minutes. Poster presentations will "launch" with a scheduled event, and will be on display during the CLAW21 event.
Proposal are due by July 31, 2021. Applicants will be notified regarding the status of their proposals by September 1, 2021. Presenters will be offered a complimentary registration to CLAW21, but they will not be otherwise compensated. CLAW offers a generous discount to volunteers, which can involve support of the C2C, and this option may be of interest to some C2C attendees.
